Internshare - UTP

Eagle prepares to survive, overcome challenges & stay on
course to survive.
I was at Univeristi Teknologi Petronas last Friday to be one of the panels in the InternShare Forum: Internship Adapt for Future Success. Below are some of the questions posted to me during the forum.

Q: Preparation. What kind of preparations needed by the students prior to attending internship?

A: Well, if we remember when Rasulullah SAW wanted to hijrah, way back few months, he had instructed Saidina Abu Bakr RA to start preparing the route, choose the best camel, feed it with the best food and prepare for the journey. Likewise, in the internship, you need to prepare. Know your company, know yourself and know the position that you will be doing. You need to negotiate with the company for the job that you inspire to do.

Q: What kind of person that the company is looking at hiring them?

A: Hmmm... if you have a chance to do some research, you will find the companies are looking for individuals who are team player, full of energy, take intiative, motivated, independent etc. You can find all these from the job adverstisment in the STAR Newspaper on Saturday. My advise, few months prior to leaving the university, start do the research on the type of soft skills that you need to have.

Q: Challenges: How to overcome the challenges during internship?

A: There is no straight road to success. The finest statute which commands the highest price received the most knocks. It is the same for the nice painting. It needs to receive the most brush in order to have a nice ans smooth painting. Thus, you need to expect some challenges that will come in various forms. What you need to do is to continue focus to be on the right track. You cannot sway just because of the distractions that you will have during internship.

Q: What is the right job for us? How do we sure that we will like the job?

A: There is no assurance that you will like the job. In life, it will be perfect of we do what we love and get a lot of money just like Ronaldo in Real Madrid Footbal team or Lionel Messi with Barcelona Team. But how many of us can be Ronaldo and Messi? Alternatively, we need to love what we do. How many of us dream of having Angelina Jolie as a life parner but since we are not getting her as a life partner, we still need to love the partner that we have.

Those are some of the questions that I received. In wrapping-up my views, I had asked the students to plan for their success. If they fail to plan, the will plan to fail. They need to put a story board on what they want to see themselves at the end of intership period and start working on it. They need to take the advantage that being an intern, they are not expected to be a perfect person. They are in ZOFAN (Zone of Free and Neutral) area. Make some errors and learn from it.

Women's Rights

Today 8th of March 2011 marks 100th anniversary of International Women's Day. In the US, President Obama declared that March 2011 to be "Women History Month" to celebrate the achievement of women in economy, social and political. International Women Day was to remember for the movement to fight for equal rights.

Islam has given the rights to women more than 1400 years ago. This is clearly seen in the revelation of the words of Allah:

"O You who believe! You are forbidden to inherit women against their will, and you should not treat them with harshness, that you may take away part of the Mahr (bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at time of marriage) you have given them, unless they commit open illegal sexual intercourse. And live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allah brings through it a great deal of good." (An-Nisa 4:19)

The rights given to women doesn't mean the sameness. Women play their roles based on who they are versus man who have the roles to play. Life is complete when there is complementary roles. The world will meaningless if man and women doing the samething, same way.

Our beloved Messenger of Allah SAW said:

"Assuredly, women are the twin halves of men." (Sahih reported by Abu-Dawud (RA)

Islam considers women has the same right as man. Allah mentioned that women was created from parts of Adam AS so thta they can be partner.

"O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife (Eve), and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever and All-Watcher over you." (Al-Nisa 4:1)

It is Islam that recognized the rights of women some 1400 and this recognition continues.

Saman Ekoq

Ramai yang menarik nafas lega
Tempoh bayaq saman disambung juga
Sebab 17 juta saman masih dalam raga
Ada potentsi gomen dapat duit ribuan juta
Mungkin nak "fund" pilihanraya
Dah banyak "indicator" yang ia hampir tiba

Sapa lah tuan penasihat pemimpin kita
17 juta saman nak kena jelas dalam seminggu jua
Dah tentu tak cukup kaunter & pekerja
Nak proses 17 juta saman sebelum 10 haribulan tiga
Maknanya proses lebih 2 juta saman dalam satu hari bekerja
Habis semua polis dok depan meja
Tak ada dah yang nak melilau tangkap bangla

Lepas 10 haribulan tiga
Pak menteri akan masuk dalam berita
Mengata rakyat tak peduli & tak peka
Nak bayar saman serta merta
Asik dok tangguh sampai masuk senja
Baru nak pi beratur nak jelas denda

Wahai pak menteri yang tak berapa bijaksana
Cuba buat metematik darjah tiga
Cukupkah kaunter dan tenaga kerja
Nak prosess saman 17 juta
Dalam masa 8 hari saja

Apa nak jadi negara kita
Kenapa masih di takuk lama
Nak bayar masih kena beratur lama-lama
Kita buat koridor cyber raya
Tapi e-gomen masih macam zaman dalam gua
buktinya, myEG slow melata

Cuba lihat jiran kita Singapura
Ada 2000 kiosk merata-merata
Internet portal laju gila
Guna cashless dalam semua urusan denda
e-payment dah jadi budaya
Boleh bayaq denda bila-bila masa
Ia mudah, efektif dan senang selanggara
Tak perlu bukak kaunter sampai malam2 buta

Alamak...kesian kat kita
Sistem kat sini nampaknya masih di kelas kedua
